Britannia Place

About Britannia Place

Britannia Place living is a celebration of the many exciting experiences from sea to mountain peak that the Comox Valley has to offer and a community where Owners gather regularly to celebrate special holidays and the annual golf tournament.

The Britannia Place community is administered by a Strata Council that manages the affairs of the strata and places effective communication between Strata Council and Owners and among Owners as a top priority. We take special pride in the Britannia Place grounds and homes, and have established a strong maintenance program to preserve the beauty and quality of the strata.

Britannia is OUR place. The place where we enjoy flower gardens 10 months of the year; where neighbours often walk together, golf together, and as a community celebrate Canada Day and other events together; read a favourite novel in the quiet of a tranquil patio; ski in the deepest powder; cruise the waters of scenic Desolation Sound; golf the spectacularly beautiful and challenging Crown Isle course; or, reel in a record Chinook Salmon.

There is no more rewarding place for living than Britannia Place.

Area Attractions

Britannia Place is situated in the Comox Valley that stretches about 50 km. along the east coast of Vancouver Island from Fanny Bay in the south to Saratoga Beach in the north. With the Salish Sea in the east and Comox Glacier and the Beaufort Mountains in the west, the Comox Valley offers every possible outdoor activity in one of the world's most spectacular settings. The name "Comox" comes from the First Nations peoples' word Komuckway meaning "land of plenty" which continues to be an apt description of the Valley. Cultural activities and festivals, the arts, dining, shopping and learning opportunities make the Comox Valley a preferred destination for vacationers and an ever healthier place to live.

From the Filberg and North Island Music Festivals; to Comox Nautical Days and the Mind Over Mountain Adventure Race; to award winning restaurants, the Farmers' Market, the Comox Dock fish sales and the Beaufort Winery; to Courtenay's Fifth Street and Comox Avenue shops; and, to the Sid Williams Theatre, new Courtenay Library, Courtenay and District Museum and North Island College there is always something to eat, drink, buy or learn in the Comox Valley.

The Comox Valley is also the spring training home for the Canadian Forces Snowbirds Demonstration Team. Being only 10 minutes drive from the air base, folks at Britannia Place get a preliminary performance of this world famous squadron.

Valley Activities

Arts and Culture:

The Filberg Festival and North Island Music Festival are Comox Valley cultural traditions, and for good reason. The Valley is home to internationally renowned artists and artisans and music, the theatre and dance are strongly promoted in the community. First Nations language, culture and history infuse the place-names, food choices, environmental appreciation and inter-cultural respect evident in many aspects of daily living in the Comox Valley.

Boating, Swimming, and Diving:

Sailing, power boating and kayaking are among the most popular Comox Valley recreational activities. Whether you own or prefer to charter there is nothing better than a day on the Salish Sea. And if you are new to boating, there are numerous learning opportunities, clubs and experienced neighbours ready to help you get started.

Swimmers enjoy diving in the clearest ocean waters anywhere to experience an awesome array of undersea life, taking a leisurely "tube ride" down the Puntledge River on a warm summer afternoon, and swimming laps at the Aquatic Centre only a few blocks from the Britannia Place gates.

Dining:

The Comox Valley is increasingly known for its dining experiences. Award winning menus, bucolic ocean views, French cuisine, sushi, local cheeses and wines, and fresh oyster appetizers make dining out a memorable experience in the Valley.

Eating Fresh:

For those who enjoy cooking the abundance of high quality fresh foods is a reason to live in the Valley. The Courtenay Farmers Market, many farm gate and seafood markets, bakeries of every variety, butcher shops offering local beef, pork and poultry, and numerous in-season opportunities to gather your own wild mushrooms and berries make eating fresh a cornerstone of Britannia Living. And gathering a special treat at Hot Chocolates on 5th Avenue in Courtenay is a food experience that has no parallel.

Fishing:

Fresh and saltwater fishing opportunities abound in and around the Comox Valley. Several boat launches and marinas are nearby and there are many rivers and streams to challenge fly fishers. Salmon, trout, ling cod and flounder are main fish species caught close by the Valley. Dungeness crab, spot prawns, clams and oysters round out the catch of the day.

Golf:

Three 18 hole and several 9 hole executive golf courses are within a 15 minute drive of Britannia Place. The Crown Isle women's and men's clubs offer near by tests of skill for the more competitive golfers. Courses include Crown Isle, Glacier Greens, Comox, Sunnydale, Mulligans, and Longlands.

Hiking and Walking:

There are numerous hiking trails in and around the Comox Valley. Trails range in difficulty from a relaxing stroll along the estuary or the "pub walk" from the Oyster River to Salmon Point, to a moderate 8km hike through Paradise Meadows to Helen Mackenzie Lake, and to the more strenuous trails in Strathcona Park.

Learning:

Never stop learning in the Comox Valley. The North Island College offers a broad range of courses and a variety of community agencies and groups provide opportunities to improve artistic, writing, hobby and other skills. Personal growth classes and retreats too are a growing part of the Valley's appeal to vacationers and residents alike.

Shopping:

Specialty shops, artist studios, antique stores, clothing, sporting goods and book stores abound in the Valley. The sheltered sidewalks of Courtenay's 5th Avenue make a stroll among the shops a great way to pass a rainy afternoon. A coffee or tea at one of the several locally owned coffee shops makes the shopping experience that much better. Shopping within five minutes drive of Britannia Place includes Cascadia Liquor, CIBC Bank, Costco, Coast Capital Credit Union, Dollar Store, Home Depot, McDonalds, Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, Thrifty Foods, Tim Horton's, White Hat Cleaners, and others.

Skiing and Snowshoeing:

Mount Washington offers both alpine and Nordic skiing over a 4 ½ month season. The mountain can challenge every level of skier and with its moderate climate is a great family destination. The day lodge is 25 minutes from the gates of Britannia Place and the route is paved and kept open in most conditions. On a clear day, the mainland coastal mountains and Comox Glacier make a perfect backdrop for a great day in the snow.
